I got into the office early today. Around 8 am. Somebody had to be there to receive the delivery of the groceries. I’m up early these days anyway so I didn’t mind too much.
A benefit of working half days is that I could leave an hour earlier as well. It was just a few minutes past noon when I slipped back into my jacket.
The moment I got back home again I felt tired and apathetic. I just wanted to sit down and play a game again. The continuous fog and rain outside only strengthened the urge. I booted up the PlayStation but as soon as the game loaded I got up.
There’s no reason to sit down moping around the house for the rest of the day. Should I go out and shoot some photos? The weather is kind of perfect for the project I’m working on this winter.
Before I know it I’m cleaning the kitchen instead. It’s not something I enjoy doing but I always like the result of a good cleaning job. Perhaps I can find some fulfillment in that. I vacuum the house to add to the effect but it just doesn’t quite do it for me.
I should just go out and shoot those photos.
A moment later I find myself on my bike. On my way to an area outside of town we Dutch folks call ‘de polder’. I think to myself that it’s ironic that I didn’t even want to out in this weather and now I’m moving to the most unprotected empty landscape we have near. Oh well, the photos should make it worth it.
I dwell around for an hour or two and return home with a solid 15KM behind me. I set my camera down and feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. It didn’t look like it but I still made something out of my day.
I sit down and start writing: “I got into the office early today“.
