Crossing

A walk from one edge of a city to the other — west to east, north to south. A straight line through a place to see what connects its opposite sides.

What do you notice about a city when you walk it from one side to the other?

Crossing is a walking experiment where I move from edge to edge — west to east, north to south — tracing a path through neighborhoods, roads, and spaces that don’t usually follow a single storyline. It’s not about efficiency or sightseeing. It’s about stitching together opposites, letting the walk reveal what's in between.

Each crossing follows a simple rule: walk from one edge of a city to the opposite side, without shortcuts. Below are the cities I've crossed so far, each one a straight line through a different story.

Amersfoort — West to East

Date walked: February 8th, 2025
Distance: 8.6 km
Total time: 2h 18m
Start: Superfun
End: Oude Lageweg/Amersfoortsestraat

In this walk I crossed Amersfoort from its eastern edge to the western boundary, tracing one unbroken line through the city. The route isn’t about efficiency or landmarks; it’s about seeing what the city reveals when you move straight through it. From shifting neighborhoods to hidden transitions, the east–west crossing shows Amersfoort as a single continuous landscape.

Amersfoort — North to South

Date walked: March 1st, 2025
Distance: 12.2 km
Total time: 3h 31m
Start: Grubbenvorstkade/Laakweg
End: Balistraat/Leusderweg
